First let me say that my critique of hair bands was mostly in jest, but I will list some music that i have been listening to of late. And, if you haven't heard of them, well, sorry! But, this is who I like...

Tom Waits
Leonard Cohen
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Dead Can Dance
Peter, Paul, and Mary
Bob Dylan
Van Morrison
Johnny Cash
The Beatles
Joni Mitchell (Love her!)
Jim Croce
Led Zeppelin
many classical recordings... Chopin and Beethoven among my favorites.
Miles Davis
Herbie Hancock
Simon and Garfunkel
Did I mention Bob Dylan? Can you listen to too much?
Leon Redbone
Stevie Wonder
The Beach Boys
The Eagles
Louis Armstrong
Any folk music
Andre Segovia
Vladimir Horowitz playing anything, but love his Chopin and Beethoven work.
Went through a Tori Amos phase, but can't really listen to her now.

My biggest influences when playing my own music are Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. I somehow managed to pick up a strong country/bluegrass feel with my music too, though I have never been strongly exposed to these musics in their purer forms. Dawn is a big Natalie Merchant fan. Love her too, and the 10,000 Maniacs.

Again, I wasn't trying to be critical so much as have a laugh. If you listen to any of these guys for the first time based upom my recommendations, I will be flattered and anxious for a comment or two. If you want recs for specific albums or anything, just let me know...
