Well -- you asked on the right day.

Yesterday the BBC announced who will be playing the 9th Doctors. He is someone I am not familiar with, though he has been in movies and shows I've heard about.

The 9th Doctor is: Christopher Eccleston.

What else we know of the show:

13 45 minute episodes (which is equivalent of a 26 episode season like in the Tom Baker days).

Russel T Davies is writing 8 of the episodes.
Steven Moffat (2 episodes)
Paul Cornell (1 episode)-- He is one of the best for ideas for DW in the last 10 years. I am sure you remember some of his books -- like TimeWyrm: Revelation (the last of the 4). I've talked to him a few times online, and he is a very nice chap.
Rob Shearman (1 episode)-- He's done some very good DW audio stories (which you have not heard, but he is always in the top 3 for the writers for the audios). He is also professionally a playwrite with much success in the UK. Great choice.
Mark Gatiss (1 episode) He is also a high-earning name in UK television (and has written books, I think Nightshade was his) and a few good DW audios.

All in all, everyone chosen is a fan of the original series (a good sign), and have had I think, previous experience working with DW. They are also seen, in general, as some of the elite of television in the current era of UK tv.
