Subject: Is Robert Bloch Responsible?

Ever since the death of HP Lovecraft, there have been people who speculated that his stories were based upon "fact" rather than fiction. Obviously, many have tried to make money out of this -- by creating copies of their own "Necronomicon."

Last night, I read one of Bloch's stories, a continuation of "The Haunter in the Dark" where Lovecraft is turned into a character of the sequel (it was, I believe soon after Lovecraft's death), where, in the story, "Haunter" was really a semi-fictional retelling by Lovecraft of real events.

Was this the first work which played on this idea (obvioulsy, fictional and meant to be in Bloch... but could it be the source for the idea itself)
