Personally, if Iraq attacked us, I would have not problem warring with them, but I think it is more ethical to wait for them to attack first).

-1)umm...we get regularly fired on by Iraqi missle stations every month.

-2)An Al-Qaeda member arrested in Britain last month for a plot to attempt to poison the water supply to a Brit military base (with a large supply of poison - a type that Sadaam has had and refused to declare that he destroyed) receieved medical care in Baghdad (leg amputation) due to injuries received courtesy of American forces in Afghanistan. Of course, harboring the sworn ememies of the USA, the people who attacked WTC, the USS Cole and the military barracks in Riyadh is just being neighborly...

Secondly - our entry into WWII was no precipitated by German action, but rather by Japanese action. All references to Hitler in the WWII comments really miss the mark. If you check the historical record we declared war on Germany after they declared war on us because we declared war on the Japanese for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Hitler actually lived up to his alliance with the Japanese - if he had not we would have had an interesting dilemma. FDR really wanted to fight against the Nazis but not so much against the Japanese. That is why we had a Europe first policy.

To throw a monkey wrench in the whole equation - many historians claim the Japanese were forced into attacking the United States - we had cut off their oil supply and their access to many metals due to an embargo. On the one hand, we told them it wasn't any of our business, on the other, we told them we weren't helping them butcher the Chinese and Korean people. The Japanese felt they had no choice but to hit America hard and fast and hope to shock us into making a deal. Were they justified?
