Actually, I was going to say that these patrols might have been part of the security for the protesters. Every large sporting event I've been to since 9/11 has had police and/or security looking for weapons. Some have been fairly thorough (Colts games) and some have been so incompetent I could have brought a bazooka in (Indy 500).

I remember there was quite a ruckus in a previous DC protest when the police stopped 2 protestors wearing ski masks and carrying backpacks who were climbing up the fire escape to the top of a building. In reality, these two guys were going to take a sign from their backpacks and hang it from the top of the building and were wearing the masks because it was really cold - but one can easily see how it could have been snipers climbing to the roof with their equipment in backpacks. Anyway, they were let go despite the trespassing and resisting arrest because their real crime was not being too bright.
