I think it's natural to judge others. Pick out things that are different from you or cultural norms and belittle them. There's a certain sense of power in doing this and it's not always false power! Humans are programmed to bond with others like them . . . in creates communities and communities are better able to survive than individuals.

I think that same way . . . all the time. Especially while driving!

I suspect people pissed Whitman off too -- evidenced by this often overlooked and frequently omitted verse from "Song of Myself":

Trippers and askers surround me,
People I meet, the effect upon me of my early life or the ward and city I live in, or the nation,
The latest dates, discoveries, inventions, societies, authors old and new
My dinner, dress, associates, looks, compliments, dues,
The real or fancied indifference of some man or woman I love;
These come to me days and night and go from me again,
and I, pleased at their leaving, shout foul curses at their pimpled backsides
and rue the day when the simpleminded fools again spray their foul breath'd inanities in my face; fukkers all.
;)

But it's not a way that I, at least, like to view myself. And Whitman reminds me that, well, to quote myself: We're all turdovens. And that's a beautiful thing.
