Subject: U.S. as worst polluter in the world
In reply to: mvd 's message, "Some info on Indiana's environment" on 12:46:09 08/11/03 Mon

I really hate that line about the United States being the worst polluter in the world because - #1 we are not and #2 our environment is so much cleaner than it used to be that it is unbelievable and #3 we oftentimes are compared to countries that actually produce nothing (such as Singapore and Luxembourg) that devote their economies to being middlemen - merely transferring products that were made in other places to places that wish to purchase them. In the case of Singapore - they ship American goods to Asia and Australia and vice versa. Where is the Singaporan car? Refrigerator? Stereo? CD burner?

What the US does do is use more natural resources than any other country on earth - about 25% of the total consumed every year. But, we produce 40% of the world's economy. That means we are the most efficient since the rest of the world combined uses 75% of the world's resources to create a mere 60% of the world's economy.

Honest to goodness, if you really believe we are the worst polluter in the world drive to Mexico and look at the environmental disaster that they create every day.
