A Star Wars question

I may have asked this before, but if I did the answer must not have impressed me enough for me to remember it.

Why does Darth Vader not realize that the Princess also has the Force when he is in the room with her while her Alderaan is destroyed and he tortures her? He recognizes Luke has the force when he is flying behind him when he is defending the Death Star. He knows Obi Wan is on the same space station because of the Force. If it is because she's had no training, Episode 1 pretty much tossed that out the window - its not training at all, you're born with it.
