Sorry to burst your bubble, but I am the Gloria who said I did not like any of the songs with Gloria in them that I have heard so far. Since I feel that I should not have been named Gloria in the first place, there is a logical sequence here. There are at least three songs about Gloria that I can think of which DO NOT FIT ME AT ALL!!
1) Gloria by the Manhattan Transfer. "Gloria, Gloria, it's not Marie...it's not Cherie, but she's not in love with me..." Hello, I don't think anyone has ever had a broken heart because of me (nor have I over anybody, as least as far as I can recall), not my ex-boyfriends, not my ex-fiance. And thank goodness!
2) Gloria by Van Morrison. I am not five feet four, I don't go around some guy's place up to his room at midnight to make him feel good, nobody shouts my name etc. ...a real waste of time and pointless.
3) Gloria by Laura Brannigan. I am not on the run after anybody to "get him somehow." I don't need to slow down, or headed for a breakdown, I don't care what "he" said, I don't have voices in my head, I am not falling, nobody wants me, why should I care if anybody is calling, I would not not answer someone and certainly would not leave "em hangin' on the line," no one has my number, I am not living under an alias, I am not meeting "him on the main line" or catching "him on the rebound (who is "he", anyways?)." I certainly did not marry for money nor do I have a lover in the afternoon.
Jeez, do I lead a dull life or something because none of that fits? These songs downright irritate me, but I am entitled to an opinion! To each his or her own.
