If your own life was written like this...could you deal with it? I couldn't. I've had my share of romatinc up's and downs, but I've never had to kill my lover (for exampole). I think the show does a decent job of showing the emotional trauma that wears Buffy down (most particularly in season 2 & 3), and how she's become emotionally closed off. As much as we bitch about stone-cold Buffy, I think the show portrays an interesting effect of how Buffy has been forced to deal with so much sorrow and pain. As far as is possible in such a show, I think that the emotional development of Buffy is a fairly realistic consequence. To give Joss credit, it's not an accident that Buffy has changed from a bubbly personality to a "hard" one. A person in her position could either have a complete breakdown from so much sorrow, or close themselves off.

Hmmm...a bit serious for the message board perhaps, but that was my thought. It's really amazing how Joss has totally defied traditional TV "rules" and caused so much angst in his audience...yet we keep coming back. Why is that?
