You know, I really think that's more of a reflection of the writing of her character than SMG herself. I read an article last year in Entertainment Weekly (which never tlies, of course) and she admitted that she was upset with how they evolved her character. She recognized the fans WANTED cheerful, confident, cheeky, and playful Buffy, but that Joss decided to go in a different direction. She was especially cranked about how season 6 turned out for her charcater, (especially the sex).

So, perhaps she kind of did just throw in towel, or became a diva or whatever, but what we think of SMG is really influenced by the charcter Buffy. After all, she doesn't write the scripts. Sheesh, talk about a lengthy defense.

I, and everyone else agree, that seasons 4-7 have pretty much been a slow death for all of us. The glory days really were in high school.
