Subject: Can ghosts travel with families (move from house to house)?

Our family lived in an older house several years ago upon moving to our newly built house of 5 years. At our older house we experienced, what we thought to be "ghost encounters." However, when we moved, these stopped, as one would figure to happen. Recently, we have been noticing some objects being moved around, and some late-night "activity" going on in our large basement family room. I am the only one who sleeps down here, but just today my stepmom is believing it too. Her bracelet was found hanging in our laundry closet on a hanger. She last left it all the way on the other side of the house in the master-bathroom, the night before. She accused my father of misplacing it or moving it, he did not. So, when she opened the closet, there it was, just hanging there. Also, a light has been flipping on and off. Our lamps have timers on them, but this one doesn't. Are we experiencing the same ghosts from our old house, because we have no other ideas how they could be in a new house??? Can ghosts "adopt" families???? and if so can they move with them??

Hello. Some researchers believe that spirits are limited to certain locations. However, I personally believe that they CAN travel, at least many of them seem to be able to. I don't know the full history of your previous home's hauntings so I really can't say whether it is the same one. I can tell you that it is not uncommon for new structures to be haunted. A spirit may have an attachment to the property itself, it may be attached to a family member or an object, ... etc. There are so many reasons why this may be happening. I would recommend keeping a journal of occurrences to help you determine if this spirit has the same characteristics as the one in your old home. Please keep me updated and we'll go from there. I agree with Stacy completely on this one.

Also, sometimes the strong emotional bond between two people can keep the spirit with them.

The town I live in, Mount Carroll, Illinois, was laid out 170yrs. ago with the "supernatural traveler" in mind. I was told the old belief was that a spirit can not move over a body of water. The city graveyard is on a hill overlooking the downtown, but "protected" by the Wakarusha river that wraps almost completly around the entire chunk of land, imprisoning 7,500 graves. The un-wise people that chose to build on cemetary hill were looked down upon by the rest of the town until fairly recent times. Every October for the last 4yrs. graveyard tours are offered by the chamber of commerce ,these have to be "historical" in nature to be tolerated by the community as not being "disrespectful to the dead.

Greetings from The Ancient One

To begin yes spirits travel with people . That is why the first thing you do during an investigation is determine if the spirit is with the people or the place .

Having said that , your house may be knew but the land is not . So if the spirit is displaying different traits and behaving differently , i would check out the history of the property and area .

from our experience, yes, my father was in the house he lived in when my son & daughter-in-law moved in there & when they moved to a new house, my daughter-in-law also saw him at the new house several times. our theory is that he is watching over their son who was born in the previous house.
