Hello everyone,
Let me introduce myself and give you a brief history
of my MS-like symptoms.

I am 31-years old, married, and living in South Korea.
I teach English here (and worked in Japan for 2 years
previously) but plan to return to the States
(California) in July.
About 6 years ago I had a "droopy" eyebrow. No big
deal... just weird. Had a myasthenia gravis test
which was negative. Doctor said not to worry. I
didn't.
I have always been a healthy person... never really
got colds... never went to the doctor except for my
annual, and never was a medicine taker.

I was married on Aug. 8, 1999 in California. I flew
from Tokyo to San Diego in July. About a week after
my wedding (I was so exhausted from planning the
ceremony from overseas... etc) I caught a cold. the
cold eventually turn into the WORST flu/cold I ever
had. I had enormous white blisters in my throat. I
went to the doctor and she did a strep culture...
which was negative. She prescribed some anitbiotics.
My husband and I drove from Northern California to
Oregon to say goodbye to his parents. On the drive
there my cold got worse and now I had a fever. the
pain in my throat was excruciating and the blisters
were getting bigger. I went to a clinic in Salem,
Oregon and the doctor thought it might be mono but
wasn't sure. I told him I had to leave and didn't
have time to wait for test results. (I had to be in
Korea on Aug. 17, 1999.) He prescribed a very strong
antibiotic in the hopes of knocking out whatever it
was. I stopped taking the first antibiotics and took
the ones he recommended. (I think this is what started
it all..)
In late August, while in Seoul, I noticed a weakning
in my right leg. The progression has been slow but
noticeable ever since.

*Right leg weak. Occasionally numb.
*Both arms weak. Occasionally numb.
*Eye pain in my right eye.
*Within the last 2 months my left leg is now weak and
numb. Both feet tingle.
*BLADDER problems. More now than ever...especially
when I walk.
*Intense (strange) feeling in the middle of the
night... like there is too much pressure in my head..
I know this sounds hoakey but honestly... no other way
to describe it.

I have seen a neuro here and he has done 2 mri's
(which were negative for MS) and one unnsuccessful LP.
(Long story... as if this one wasnt long enough!) I
sent the MRI's to the States for a second opinion and
my doc there said they were okay as well.
You might wonder why I don't go home. The road to a
diagnosis is long and expensive and many docs have
told me to wait it out as long as I can. I don't have
insurance back home and won't until I get a job.
Getting a dx now might hurt my chances of getting
insurance in the future. Well, I realise this is
long.. thanks for reading... I wish I had some answers
... I wish I felt better. Michelle
