My doc (pcp) was able to see that my optic nerve was "pale" right away just with a flashlight. Although I don't think that I have a very bad case of O.N. because I'm certainly not blind! He suggeted that I get some additional tests done to "prove" my O.N., like an MRI & some other stuff, but my neuro told him that it wasn't necessary.
I've read that it's possible to have O.N. that can't be seen except by MRI. Sometimes it's positioned behind the eyeball. My EEG took about an hour. 40 minutes for her to sandpaper & glue (smells like ether) the electrodes on my scalp, & 20 for the test. She told me to think about nothing & showed me a strobe light that blinked at different speeds. Pretty dull.
My EEG didn't show a thing.
