Subject: Should I become a Petsitter?

I started researching the possibility of becoming a professional petsitter when all of this was very new. Because of my love for animals and hoping that I could contribute a little to taking care of them and especially the lonely ones that are left alone for so long. But because of different circumstances in my life I never did get started. I also live in a small town and there didn't seem to be much call for petsitting. Now I've moved to an even smaller town and I'm actually looking for a sitter myself and can't find even one so I'm having second thoughts about this and even though I'm starting a full time job soon I'm thinking of maybe trying to start this (I know most find it slow in the beginning) and see how it goes. Who knows, maybe the reason I can't find a sitter out here is because there is no need for one, but I can only try and see.

Now a few questions: How do I know if this is right for me? Is it a good idea to just have some business cards explaining my service, kind of like mini brochures, made up and take them around to all the groomers and vets in this area? Is it realistic to make my own hours and stick with them, say only working during the week days, or do you find most work on weekends? How much should I charge? Most people out this way charge $10.00 and I'm not sure what they charge if they have more than one visit per day. Do I have to charge the same as other nearbye petsitters do you find? Like I mentioned I'm starting a new full time job next week, should I even be thinking of starting this right now? Any feedback right now would be gladly appreciated.

Judy
