Angelina Jolie has taken time out from watching her six nannies raise her six kids from behind her plastic surgery bandages to lend her melted-candle face to yet another utterly selfless cause. FAUXMANITARIANISM and using it for cleaning up her own image! It’s what the 37-year-old once-was-an actress resorts to whenever the piles of empty pizza boxes and beer bottles surrounding baby-daddy Brad Pitt get too high in his ‘den’ that he sits in day and night getting stoned and watching TV in, in whichever one of their multi-million dollar houses around the globe they happen to be in at the time. This time she’s leant her glazed, pinned-out eyes to recording a World Refugees Day PSA. She does it every year but I’d like to hear precisely HOW this helps refugees? Rather than hear from a drug-addled, anorexic Hollywood high school drop-out telling us that ‘No-one chooses to be a refugee’ (Oh wow Angie! really? I thought it was a life choice like sleeping with other women’s husbands then using orphans and women and children in the Third World for publicity to clean up your image), I’d rather watch footage from one of the UN field workers who actually devote their lives to the cause explain how they, and in turn us, can help by donating just one pound or whatever. Brangelina, of course, set up the very ostentatiously-named ‘Jolie-Pitt Foundation’ a few years ago. A cursory glance through their most recent tax return (2010, there’s nothing more recent) shows the various tax deductible token efforts they’ve donated which are usually named after themselves and other members of the family (there’s the Jane Pitt paediatric hospital in Springfield for example). But the most hilarious piece of self-promotion in there is the twenty grand they handed the Angelina Girls Boarding school in Kenya. Considering bisexual La Jolie spent her teens living in her mother’s home with her boyfriend from the age of fourteen, cutting each other and drinking and doing drugs, I shudder to think what kind of establishment this might be.
