Haha buddy, no my love for Brad has nothing to do with it, he just is way too much of a baseball fanatic and from what he knows of the history behind the Oakland A's and Billy Beane, he thinks this movie really glosses over a bunch of things and is inaccurate. But he actually did go. And he did enjoy a lot of the movie, the script is really sharp and quick, it was written by the same guy who wrote Social Network and won an Oscar for it this yr, Aaron Sorkin. The dude knows how to write a good dialogue, that's all i can say. But yeah, he certainly griped about the "Hollywoodness" of the retelling of the story. It's almost better when someone who doesn't know baseball that much goes to see it because he kept going "Man, Beane traded such and such player for such and such player and they played it off like it was a good thing when it was the stupidest move on his part in real life, ugh!!" And i was just like, huh? LOL I mean, honestly, if it wasn't for Brad, i am not going to deny that this kind of movie would make me fall fast asleep 2 mins in. There's so much baseball jargon in there, half the time i was just completely lost as to what the heck they were talking about!!! Brad could've been speaking Japanese and it would've been all the same to me LOL Of course my man knew exactly what was going on and it kept him interested, i didnt even bother to ask him what all the terms in the business side of baseball were about, frankly i didnt care, i was just watching Brad's performance. That man can sit there and read a phone book and i would be riveted, no lie!! LOL But all jokes aside, i thought he was terrific in this movie. It would be a great disservice if he doesn't at least get an Oscar nomination come awards time. He was so present, sharp, really took this role by the horns. Great range of emotion and there's a nice little side arc in the movie about his character's relationship with his 12 year old daughter that's really sweet. His character would go from being a go-getter at work and pursuing a goal to being just a total sweetheart of a dad and he played both sides of that character seamlessly. So bravo to Brad is my verdict, this is really one of his best roles yet. And it's a mature role, he plays a middle aged man and it is not lost on anything he does but he still does it with such finesse. I found him to truly be at the top of his game with this. I know you said you wont see it in theaters, Gina, but i do hope you change your mind, it is worth a look. As good as his performance was in Tree of Life, the premise of the Tree of Life itself is what hurt him there, it was so convoluted and flawed at times. Here, everything is sharp as a knife and it really elevates his performance.
So that's my 2 cents :)
xo, good to be back!
