Thanks for the scoop, you know as much as i hate to say this and i hope no one jumps down my throat for saying it, i feel like the American audience appreciate this guy's skill less than the European audience did. In my eyes, being bilingual myself, i was just blown away by how this guy switched between 3 languages with complete lack of an accent and effortlessness and remained a captivating character the entire time. It's almost ironic, because one of the biggest laughs Brad's character got was when
>>>SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT<<<<
he was pretending to be Italian for a scene (the scene was with Waltz's character) and he claims he speaks it the best out of all the basterds. And then the Nazi Colonel breaks into fluent Italian and tries to listen for an accent to catch them on it, and Brad's Aldo Raine basically says "Biongiorno (Hello)", "correcto", "si" and "Arrividerci (Goodbye)" without even trying to feign an Italian accent. His "Arrividerci" truly brought down the house. There's also a line in the movie when a character says "Don't you Americans speak any other language except English?", that was apparently a big hit at the Cannes screening. I know what ya'll going to say, that Cannes being in France is always ready to make fun of Americans but i hate to say it, all this "Brad was the best" kind of proves them right. Because as good as Brad was, he made the movie amazing mainly becauase his character had a lot of funny lines and Brad's delivery of those of course really propelled his performance. But Waltz's performance was ingenious on so many other levels, he had a LOT of dialogue, all in different languages, and through a long dialogue, he managed to be captivating every 2nd of it, there was literally chilling suspense just from him making polite conversation with people, and that was astounging and thrilling all at the same time! Because for a virtual unknown to be able to come onscreen and do that, you must be a pretty damn good actor.
Sorry, i'm ranting but i just had to put it out there (maybe i should start a Christophe Waltz fan board, wouldn't that be a trip ROFLMAO) I am just objective, i call good acting when i see it.
It's great that your nephew loved the movie though. And I still thought Brad was very good, dont get me wrong :)
Myst
P.S About Time Traveler's wife, no i didnt feel that movie was that long, but i can see why you would look at your watch, at times it was kinda slow-moving. It was a little under 2 hrs though so that's not too bad. But i gotta tell you, i had the same exact experience in terms of people, the theater was also half full and it was 7pm showing on a Sun, i was REALLY surprised since it was opening weekend and especially cuz that movie's in the Top 5. So you're not alone on that. Although for most other movies, NYC theaters are typically packed. In fact, we had to show up 40 mins before IB started, just to get good seats and the line in front of us (to get into the theater, since they only start letting ppl in about 20 mins before the previews start) was pretty insane. No, i'm not joking. We ended up getting decent seats but had we shown up later, forget it, we would've been sitting in the front row craning our necks. My bf keeps suggesting that they start assigning seats in movie theaters when you buy your tickets to avoid this craziness. But that's "Noo Yawk" for ya, i'm sure you dont have that problem :)
PPS IB made $37.6 mill this weekend, i expected it to be more, to tell ya the truth, judging by the # of ppl that came out, but that's still very good!
