I had seen Mystie mention she was so impressed by Jolie's performance in it. I really wasn't, I didn't think she projected the emotion of what Marianne had to be feeling throughout the movie. It looked like Jolie was acting and the screaming and crying scene when she finds out they have killed Daniel was completey transparent to me that she was looking for an Oscar nod. Interesting to me the people who vote on that fell for it. *eyeroll*
On the other hand, I didn't realize Will Patton was in this movie. He is what kept me watching it for longer than 15 minutes. I had no idea he was in it, not his best performance in my opinion, but still, I like him enough that he kept me watching.
I think I understand what they wanted to project but I didn't understand how they cut this film, it was very hard to follow as it looked like they cut and pieced it together. I couldn't figure out whether they were saying the Americans allowed him to be killed when they didn't submit to the terroists demands. It was difficult for me to follow because I really felt the whole movie, he shouldn't have gone out so much on a limb for his job. Especially since he had a pregnant wife at home. I think we can "feel" danger before it actually happens and have an opportunity to remove ourselves from the situation. He didn't, or he wasn't in touch with his gut instinict not to push for something that was too much for one man to confront on his own.
I walked away feeling sad that the baby she was carrying didn't have a father. But, I suppose that was the blessing for her, she was left with a big part of him in the child she carried. I hope she shares that life she was given with Daniels parents, I know I read somewhere they didn't get along. It saddens me because without that I doubt that Daniel could ever truly "Rest in Peace" If she loved him so dearly she would make sure his parents play a part in that little boys life. At the end of the movie I felt the child she carried was her Salvation. With the stress she endured while carrying the child it is a miracle he was born healthy. Truly it is, she should thank God for that blessing and I am sure Daniel will always stand close by as his guardian angel.
Another actor who I though was convincing was the detective in charge for Pakistan. He was very convincing in his role, did he get an Oscar nod? I thought he was much more deserving of it over Jolie. Maybe the Oscar people felt giving Jolie the nod would be more of a tribut to Marianne. Too bad Jolie didn't step aside and allow Marianne the honor of it. She was the true hero. It apperaed to me while watching it that Brad and Angie wanted to be Marianne and Daniel after that. Strange to me, it is just like JLo after making Selena, it was like she wanted to be her and live out her life. Problem for Jolie is, Marianne is still alive.
I have to wonder what Marianne and her family really thought of this movie. It was interesting to me they never even approached Daniels relationship with his parents. I think that would of added a special touch.
The movie failed to move me as a tragedy that could of been avoided. It ened making me wonder who exactly was to blame for his death and I couldn't help but come to the conclusion that Daniel was the only o ne who could of changed to outcome by avoiding the meeting with men he didn't know. I think his gut told him to run but he did the opposite and took the chance that these men(terroists) could trust him to tell their story.
