Subject: Robbery on the increase! - economic fallout? - solutions?

There has been a recent spate of daring robberies. Is this the product of the present economic conditions? What can be done about these events? What can a private citizen do to protect themselves in light of the inability to obtain even the simplest forms of self-defense? Should non-lethal personal defense methods be available to the business community for use in self defense?

While it is true that such devices can and have been used offensively, the criminal doesn't have any regard for the law. The potential robber can and will obtain whatever is necessary to make his/her criminal act more effective and less risky. Some firearms have been used, so obviously the law is being ignored by the criminals.

When weapons are outlawed, only the outlaw has weapons! A simple fact ignored by the present laws. Some say the best deterrent for crime is the ability to be armed against attack. As clear proof, witness the sudden 90% drop in crime when a prominent southern US town made firearms REQUIRED for all citizens! Criminals who can't be sure a victim is unarmed will think twice before attempting an attack. Conversely, we in Cayman are easy targets, with no ability to put up any credible defense.

Speak up on this or any other issue of today.
