Subject: Don't the suggestions seem logical?
In reply to: anon 's message, "War On Drugs" on 14:27:33 03/28/02 Thu

Miss T,

I am beginning to come to appreciate the logic of the suggestion that the "war on drugs" be declared over (and a LOSS!). It is time we treated drug addiction just the same as we treat alcohol addiction. It indeed is a medical problem, just like any other addiction.

The money spent incarcerating drug users is a total waste of national resources. Criminalizing these people only makes their lives more "worthless" and diminishes the hope that they can ever be turned around. Let's face it, no one in their right mind hires a criminal in their business voluntarily. The risk is too high.

Prison environments are training grounds for criminals. A drug user sent to prison emerges a better trained and more versatile criminal. They also have a profound social hatred for the way they have been treated by the law & society. Many companies are willing to work with an alcoholic if they are willing to undergo and maintain treatment. Think about it!
