Well, I think to be honest its even. I agree alot less BS in Va, but one bad cut from an elbow, and a guy can have a scar from an amatuer fight that plagues him the entire time he chooses to fight, and if he moves on to fighting as a professional, it could be an issue.
To be honest, I dont think amatuer MMA should exist. Not in its current (promoter and state profitting from the fights) form. Alot of conflict of interest, and the people who seem on the bottom of the priority rung are the fighters.
But I do agree, NC is BS, with the terrible refs, A.L.E. agents who dont know wtf they are doing, and the commission (er Boxing authority) that seems totally uninterested in better training its officials or for that matter they themselves becoming educated on the sport that is making the state a bunch of money and giving these folks employment.
I would prefer, in NC my guys get the option to turn pro when they choose, instead of having to fight 5 times (which is a pretty stupid rule, considering some of the guys who turn pro do so after 3-5 losses, which just means they will be experienced at losing fights when they get paid for it).
Ah well long rant and un related to the original topic. We train knees standing and elbows are more to our benefit, but still I cringe when I see some sap getting wracked with elbows for free.
