Anyone know of any shows happening in North Carolina? I'm kicking the idea around of having a show in Rockingham. Anybody know how far along the boxing commission is getting with the rules? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My promotion company, Warehouse Promotions, has scheduled a MMA show for August 30th at the Greenville Convention Center. Keep up to date on my website, ectoughman.com. I have just began accepting applications for fighters. For more info, feel free to give me a call at 252-339-7518.

Are you going to have professional fights with professional fighters? It seems EVERYONE in the state has a promotion company and plans on running alot of amatuer shows (hey the lack of payroll and no need for the insurance bond makes it more equitable given a certain size crowd) and I have seen and heard alot of guys names who to my knowledge have zero past experience in running/promoting MMA events.

My question to EVERYONE planning on running promotions, is when are you going to have some professional cards? This is no slight to the above posters, for all I know they are planning on running pro shows only, it just seems the buzz around the state the past few months has been HUGE for Ammy shows.

Thats a great point Brandon. I think the most successfull shows around the country are both, a Pro/AM kinda event. Thats what I was kicking around. 5-6 ammy fights, 4-5 pro undercard fights, then 1-2 pro main event(s) I've fought for quite a few promotions in different states across the country. I may have never promoted an event before, but I think I've got a good understanding of what it takes,I may be WWAAYYY off on that one. I agree Pro shows may cost more, but they are the way to go.

Well, no offense to your promotion talent, but you may want to get a hold of the rules for MMA for NC. I am pretty sure as they stand now to do a pro am show you have to have 5 ammy and 3 pro fights, or 3 ammy and 5 pro fights or some such crap. Its pretty dumb, and you have to have the amatuer fights before the pro fights, no mixing them up.

The specific numbering and mixing of the fights for NC is silly IMO and just another example of people with NO CLUE about fights, promoting, or business are trying to dictate all three. State employees/apointees are at the tip top of my list of incompetents these days after I saw the "amended" MMA rules, especially after a 2 hour meeting to amend them. The changes were nigh non existant and the way NC is setting MMA up right now, they are setting it to fail. Hopefully it wont go that way.

I know that maybe 3 guys from Adam Song's team the Ring Lords will possibly have fights. It's an Amatuer event
from what I understand.

Weaver is correct about the pro/am mix at shows -- here's what the final rules say with regard to that:

(5) A minimum number of 21 rounds must be scheduled for any mixed martial arts program of matches.
(6) "Pro/Am" events must have a combination of three professional bouts and five amateur bouts or five
professional bouts and three amateur bouts scheduled. Professional bouts shall follow amateur bouts
with no intermixing of the bouts.

What is the purpose of that?

could the "with no intermixing of the bouts" be becaulse the requirments are differnt rules like no kicks to the head or something like that, what way the referees has the same mind set on the rules that way they dont have to flip flop from one way of calling fights??

We really couldnt see the point of the odd matches and specific numbers as they were given. I "think" on a revised copy the rule had changed somewhat to basically say the ammy fight and then the pros, without the specific numbers of matches. But That could just be wishful thinking on my part that some of the folks in the commission were actual combat sports experts and not state cronies apointed through nepotism rather than actual qualifications.

I will say this, from what I hear if you fight or coach fighters, fight to finish the fights. It seems we have alot of judges that are going to make Cecil peoples look like a wise King Solomon.

That statement alone just sent me into permanent retirement.
