In reply to: Pupster 's message, "weight classes" on 14:28:20 01/22/07 Mon

All same day weigh ins will do is result in some guys getting some dehydration. Guys who are used to weight cutting (wrestlers) are not really going to be affected. So all same day weigh ins do is hurt the guys who are new to cutting weight.

You can always lift, get stronger and be in the absolute best shape you can too. Because if you dont want to cut weight you are going to have to have more gas and be as strong as possible to press the guys who are cutting weight. But at a certain level of training/experience everyone is in good shape and everyone is strong so it comes back to weight cutting in the end.

I agree fully with the step on the scales before your first match and weigh in with your gi on. It will speed up the registration process. Cut all the weight you like, if it affects you in your first match oh well. After that eat and balloon up all you like. They do this now in the pan-ams and the worlds.

I think weight cutting is part of any sport with weight classes, MMA, wrestling, Judo and BJJ. Oh well. I think the weigh in before you fight just ads an interesting twist.
