I have trained in bjj for over 4 years. I have trained with Renzo Gracie,Jacare, Relson Gracie, Pedro Sauer, Jorge Popovich, Erik Paulson and Carlos Machado. I recieved my blue belt from Renzo Gracie in 2000. I KNOW a black belt when I train with one!!! After training at many seminars trying to learn bjj and training 4 classes a week every week at my home academy for 4 years --- I found Luis. I drive 2.5 hours one way every weekend to have the privilege of training with this man who loves the art more than anyone I know. I have learned more and improved my skill level more in the past 6 months than I have in 4 years. His seminars are the BEST - equal to those I have taken with Renzo Gracie. Luis is without a doubt skilled and knowledgable on the mat, a wonderful person, who not only teaches his students everything without HIDING techniques like so many instructors do - he also considers his students his friends. If you can't say something good - then just don't say anything at all!!!!!! Maybe you are just not so confident in your own rank or lack there of - that you have to talk down about someone else in order to throw a smoke screen around your own failings.

Hey, I don't want to talk bad about Luis Togno, I don't even know him. He might be a great guy, I don't know. I just want to know who Eduardo Hodas is under? Luis is under Hodas and Hodas is under who? All you guys who have trained under Luis seem to know hin very good, well that's great! So who is his instructor under? Not jacare, not Carlson Gracie jr, but Hodas! That's the question. Luis might be a great BJJ man, but is he being honest about his rank? That's the question. I think you guys are very loyal and that's great. I respect that very much, but don't you guys who are his students know what your own lineage is?

OH man these have been some pretty funny posts as of late. I have to agree with jimmy on the point at hand. Why can't luis produce concrete proof of his instructor, Eduardo Hodas. If Eduardo truely is a bjj black belt then he should be recognized within the bjj community. I once heard from Relson Gracie that he had never heard of Eduardo and didn't know of any legitament bjj school in Peurto Rico, supposedly where luis trained. And if anyone should have that kind of knowledge, it would be a Gracie. If luis would just answer these questions, then a lot of these doubts would cease. The point is Jimmy wants proof of what luis lineage is, not just here say of what it is. I say that if your learning something from the guy then more power to you. Doesn't matter what belt he has on. But, if I'm training under someone and want to advance in rank, then I would hope that the guy is legite. Let's stick to the point at hand, Jimmy just wants proof of the linage and rank. I had almost forgoten about toenails ... I laughed my ass off when I read that one. Thanks for the support "the jiu-jitsu unknown"! WELL OK, tell Jackie Tullock and Mike Austin and the rest of the boys I sayed hey. The true path to becoming a jedi master is honesty. Lies and deceat leads to path of the dark side ... lies lead to hate ... hate leads to anger ... and anger leads to suffering!!!!!!!!!! Thought you might like that one jiu-jitsu unknown

Oh brother! What a crock this has turned out to be. Leave it to those guys in Raliegh to stir the pot. Could it be a bit of jealousy perhaps?

Luis is virtually unknown to everyone who is not in his training circle. It has been that way for years. Carlos Lemos stated in an interview that no other black belt had bothered to come to NC before he came. HA! Luis has been around for a while now. It is funny to me how all of these people feel they have to insult a man's credentials.

As far as a money issue, I can see where that comes from. But, by saying that Jacare or Carlson Jr. endorsed Luis simply because of the cash is the same as saying that they aren't reputable instructors. Anyone who is anyone would not want a con artist to go around making a bad name for them. You see my point?

Luis has been doing very well for himself in the Charlotte area. His SC connections are also very pleased with his work. One thing that I can't get over is how the Raliegh guys are always so quick to jump on Luis's back. I will agree that Triangle BJJ had some great guys there. But let's be honest. All the hype about a certain "journalist" leader of the club is not all that it is cracked up to be. He always seems to drop the dime that he has high ranking friends in the BJJ community. When this journalist himself is nothing more than a wanna be. He sure does talk a good game though.

It seems to me that there is a LOT of jealousy floating around the North Carolina BJJ circles. And I believe that a large portion of it comes directly from Raliegh. If you are guilty of this, you know who you are. If not, then don't sweat it.

I think that Jacare and CG Jr. would be happy to know that you guys think no more of them than that they endorse a fraud. All of you guys should get together and write them a letter letting them know how you really feel. I bet they would appreciate it to know what type of BJJ people that reside in this state.

Relson Gracie? Well then, if he has never heard of Hodas then he must not exist. Give me a fucking break! Relson comes from the Gracie family so he is knowledgable about all things in BJJ? Really? Okay then, what about what happened between him and the Inoue brothers in Hawaii? Relson can get on his high horse at times just like the other Gracies. Let's just leave that subject alone.

As far as training goes, I have taken seminars from some great instructors like Paulson, Rickson, Sauer, Carlson Jr, and others. The instruction I got from one of Luis' seminars was everybit as helpful as theirs. I am a lifelong white belt in BJJ if you happen to wonder. But don't let the rank fool you. Belts are only the fancy decorations of a man's true skills, in my opinion.

Armtriangle, I have not got into this and am not. yes, I am a wanna be, so is everyone else. I wanna be better than I am right now. Do I have a lot of good high ranking bjj friends, yes. They never lied to me when they said they would be there for a seminar. They gave me fight tapes when I asked to see them. They never left me sitting in a restaurant for two hours lieing and saying they were on their way. They actually compete in ADCC, the worlds and Pan Ams against real opponents and win. As for Luis I wish him the best of luck in all his endeavours. I am happy with my life, I hope you and Luis are too Arm Triangle.By the way I am not training at Triangle BJJ nor am I there ring leader.

As was said before; if anyone really wanted to know the answer to these questions, they would simply email, call, or visit the school and ask Luis about it. Its not like his email, school address, and phone number isn't available.

Every couple months someone decides to get online and start talking junk about Luis and 9 times out of 10 it stems from one location/ group of people. It seems like these individuals would gettirted of doing the same stuff repeatedly, but I guess they have to get their kicks somehow.

In closing, if anyone truely wants the answers to the questions that were intially asked (and for some reason I doubt they do), contact Luis and get the answers from the man himself.
