Besides I'll take fun/origional over huge/mainstream anyday.

I'll bring my plans for it with me next weekend, wouldn't mind bouncing a few of the concepts off ya'lls heads and get some feedback(there still a lot of fine-tuning to be done)

Martial Arts Olympics,..."THE GAUNTLET" will be hosted by the International GrappleFest 2005 Sept 17-18 in Richmond, Va.!

Unlike anything you've ever seen! Compete and win prizes! TEAM competition only, your 5 member team will go against teams representing other schools, states, and countries in a series of grueling events. Challenging your team across the board in a variety of areas; speed, strength, stamina, skill, teamwork, fighting spirit,...you get the picture.

Putting your skills to the test in a way that's,..... Outside the Box! Tug-Of-War, Climbing Wall, 4-Way Joust, Obstacle Course, and many more. FREE to competitors. Can your team "Run the Gauntlet?"

THE GAUNTLET IS FREE TO ALL REGISTERED COMPETITORS!!! 5 members are needed to form a team and yes, you can have a back-up member in case one of your 5 gets hurt in earlier Tap Factor events.

The "TAP FACTOR" annual Grappling competition IS seperate from this(there's ALL kinds of Grappling in that one, Judo, BJJ, Folkstyle, Highland Wrestling, Sambo, No-Gi, etc.) and the standing of the team points will be influenced by the results, true.

BUT the main portion of the scoring, 90%, of the Martial Arts Olympics team scoring system is based upon your teams performance in 12 events.

The grappling competition will be on Sat/Sun(17-18). Higher level divisions will be Sat. Less advanced on Sun. The Gauntlet will take place on Sun. IF, we finish up with some time to spare on Sat. evening I would like to go ahead and run an event or two(some quick'n'simple ones). That way we will have less stuff to finish up on Sun.

IF, IF, we are running behind schedule with the Gauntlet events on Sun, I will reluctantly kill off some of the more time consuming ones. The most kick-ass ones will stay though....

It is primarily targeted towards the higher level competitors who will be done with their higher level divisions on Sat. Thus freeing them up for most of Sun., since you're already there you might as well have some fun while you wait for your less advanced team-mates to finish up.

I'm a Grappler/MMA'ER too so I tend to make things very hands-on. There will be some events that involve swiftness of feet, BUT I want to avoid having a 5hr long marathon and I don't think any of us like the idea of "running away" as being a skill. Some events do incorporate Grappling into them, but these events are designed with the intention of having us work "Outside-the-Box". I already have a majority of these built, and I will have 12 the day of.

################### IF anyone has some kick-ass ideas for an event the please post it here!!!! I'm open to some better brains! ##################

Here are a FEW of them, You understand if I don't post everyone of them and ruin the "WTF IS THAT!!!" type surprise. But of course everyone will be well briefed at the rules meeting before you start. Cool?

Tug-Of-War, a classic, all 5 members involved

Climbing Wall, something for the lighter guys. Team with the fastest total time wins, all 5ppl.

4-Way Joust, you've seen the normal ones?, well for this one I made a 4-way set of pedestals. One for each team for that round of eliminations. Everyone grabs a jousting stick and goes to work with the whistle, when one guy is left standing the NEXT member of the eliminated team takes their spot,...just like a batting line-up where the bats are used on opponents instead of balls. All 5 ppl.

Obstacle Course event, 5 ppl event. Fastest total time wins, This one has some twists to it.

Highland Warrior event: Combines several Scottish based events into one category, Caber Toss, Axe throw, Highland Wrestling, etc. All Five members compete, BUT the team decides which person does which particular event.

And several more that challenge your team across the spectrum of speed, stamina, teamwork, etc..etc...

"KILL-ZONE" The Grand Finally event: The last event of the day is simple, we take the top four teams out of the standing and they will go head-to-head in the "KILLZONE". The remaining teams BELOW 4th will NOT compete in this. Sorry, just make sure you're in the top four!!

The winners will be determined by what team has the overall best score.

I've got more, but this year is our first so the budget for this is limited. I want to make sure the main part, the Grappling competition, is run perfectly first and foremost.

But if a SPONSOR was to come along they could help us pimp out this by adding some frills. They could adopt an individual event, the Olympics as a whole,...and pimp it out with their name and such(many other benefits too.) Got suggestions? Post them here or email me at wayne_anthonyhuss@yahoo.com

Still having more regs pour in. I know several of the NC schools will be there.

What about for the Gauntlet? The 5 member competition team for the Martial Arts Olympics are the next thing on the list. Some will form up that weekend.

Since we are still at over a month out I wanted to see what NC schools will be stepping up to the plate in the Guantlet.

Any questions about how it works?

I will be getting a lot of ppl from the Va area, it being a big hotspot for grappling and all. It would be cool if a good number of NC schools came out to represent NC. There will be some seriously stiff competition there. But I think ya'll can at least make an impact. I'll be willing to work out some arrangements with the local NC schools on reg/accom prices.

We also will have a few NC teams in the Martial Arts Olympics,..but there is still room. The more the merrier!

Ok, five schools from NC confirmed. Hopefully they will bring enough per school to form up their own 5-man team for the Gauntlet.
