Subject: The Neck and Neck Tie

While we are yawning our way through another jerk chasing home run history a thought has occured to me, one of very few that I have had. I can't pull for Barry Bonds to break the home run record, but on the other hand, I don't want to see it stay with that pompous phoney Mark McGwire.
While I have given Bonds chance after chance, even before this season, I just can't get behind him. When the camera's are on, and Roy Firestone is tossing him softballs, I can't help but like him. But it is easy to see that is just Bonds trying to put on the good face. And probably alot of stars are like that, but I wonder what kind of reaction he would get from his teamates if he hits #71?
I can see a situation where he wouldn't get anyone rushing out to meet him at home, after rounding the bases. And worse, I don't think he would care that they didn't.
So, what I hope happens is this. A tie. 70
Let the two borish jerks sit atop the pile together. Let them deal with knowing that they share the record with someone. For Big Yuck, it will be a bad thing.... Someone tied his record. For Bonds, it will be the same as losing. The pressure has been on him for 3 months to break it and at the end, he just couldn't do it.
A tie... perfect.
I will say one thing on Bond's behalf. I think it is horsecrap if the Dodgers don't pitch to him this weekend, in a series that doesn't mean anything to him. I don't mean grove him pitches so he can swat them out of the park. I mean just try to get him out, not put him on first with 4 wide ones. The DisAstros I can sorta understand. If you are playing a close game that counts, then it is silly to throw him anything that will beat you.
