that would be pretty damn funny. I wouldn't mind seeing him come up short of the record for one reason. Jim Rome has promised to stop re-telling the story of the 1992 NLCS if Bonds breaks the record, and that one just makes me laugh too much.

"That amputee Sid Bream rounding 3rd, and Barry gets the ball that was hit to deep SS, and comes up throwing a wiffleball to the plate"

Actually, even though the rest of the nation is yawning it off, I'm really into what Ricky Henderson is accomplishing right now. Most runs scored... wow. This record is only like 70-something years old. Even around here, Tony Gwynn is rightfully getting all the attention, but from an objective standpoint, Ricky has had the better career. The most Runs, Walks, and Stolen bases in history... that's insane. And he looks like he's got more baseball left in him.

Here's my perfect scenario: Ricky gets picked up by the A's next year, and in his first game he gets a walk, steals 2nd and 3rd, scores a run and retires on the spot. Or... he hits another lead-off HR and retires on the spot.

These last few games of the season here in SD are gonna be pretty special with Tony and Ricky... it's a good time to be a baseball fan.
