Subject: Weaker as the season went on

Does anyone agree that the squad at the beginning of the season was stronger than any through the remainder, especially now. Some of the signings (in desperation) haven't really added any substance to the line up, (i.e washed out has beens...O'Callaghan, Brennan to name a few) Add that to a couple of already burnt out players (Quirk, Nestor, Pheonix, Ashton) and you don't really have a mobile unit. What ever happened to more mobile, fit experienced players like the Hughes brothers, Matt Swailes and younger promising players for the future like Abbott. Too many times you see clubs panic buy and get in players who are not in for the right reasons. Is that what we will see now with the new manager, Ex-Burscough players brought in for the reasons....decent money, closer to home, less travel. I think with the right recipe saints are still in with an outside chance as they do have some real quality, but maybe the unsettling nature of new players coming in will just fizzle things out. So far this season I have seen teams full of more running than saints impress at Knowsley Road, just because their willing to move the ball and use the space ...to do that you have to work, not stand on the ball in midfield and chew too much. Hopefully some players capable of that box to box running will come in from somewhere and not necessarily the happy to take the money and stagnate players.

Views welcome
