I agree that the squad at the begining of the season was stronger than it probably has been at any point since. Although I wouldn't totally agree with your arguements as to why this is! We certainly have had players who have failed to perform increasingly more often as the weeks have gone by and this problem has been added to by a relatively small squad.

I think most clubs would say they have their strongest squads at the start of a campaign but they usually consist of twenty-twenty five players and competition is fierce. Out main problems (like many) is that we were unable to keep everyone happy - no Reserves (which we are currently looking to do something about) - and players want to play.

The Hughes brothers have both had lengthy injuries this campaign and I for one would have liked to have seen Simon have a good go with us now that he is back to form. His brother Graham had an MRI scan some weeks ago and was possibly going to be out for the rest of the season. Players for the future, like Steve Abbot, are exactly that - for the future and at this moment they don't fit into the short term plan. Matty Swailes looked full of promise at the start but that came to nothing and he's now at Darwen having failed to impress at Salford City!

I think we've chosen a management team with vast experience of doing what we've wanted to do for the past couple of seasons. His methods seemed to have worked for Burscough so we must let his good judgement over players/tactics carry a little more weight than our own.

As far as new players are concerned - the deadline has passed for signing players for the Worthington Trophy semi-finals and the end of March is the deadline for bringing in new players for league games - so the next couple of weeks will be very interesting.

Finally, we can't please everyone, some will complain if we bring in too many new faces, other will complain if we don't. Let's just get behind the team on the field starting on Saturday and hopefully a winning start for the new boss!
