The teen years, most definitely seem to be the most important, it seems to me. Why? Because thats when we start moving in wider circles, meeting more people and doing more things. It's also when we start pushing for independence from our parents. A good parent needs to help the child or teen grow into that independence. It means allowing occasional trip-ups but being there to help pick up the pieces.

Its such a delicate balance to begin with but many fathers seem to feel threatened by their sons, especially teen sons that are growing bigger and stronger with every passing day. Maybe they see in their sons the things they always wanted to be? Maybe there's a bit of envy in there too?
