Is why it takes so *MUCH* longer to film movies than TV productions. I can understand it taking somewhat longer, because they want to be very sure there are no "bloopers" in a big screen production, which can be sort of overlooked or forgiven in a TV series. But the typical "hour-long" TV show is 45 minutes of actual footage and the the typical length of most movies is about two hours and 15 minutes so three eps of an hour-long TV drama (like XF) is the time equivalent of one movie. That means that when XF was starting filming in early August and wrapping it up in mid-May, and filming 21 or 22 eps per season, they were shooting the equivalent of *seven* movies within a nine-month time span. . .and doing it quite well, too!
As you say, though, maybe they feel DD's performance is strong enough to get him and/or the movie an Oscar nomination and are holding it for that reason. I'd love to see him get a nomination. And even if he didn't actually get nominated for best actor, if the movie got nominated for best picture, it would still reflect well on him as he's the central character in the movie.
DD also has a cameo appearance in an independent film called "Run, Ronnie, Run" but I recently read that it may just be shown on a premium cable channel, rather than being released theatrically. . .which means I won't get to see *it* anytime soon, either.
