and most of what I've heard is just what you're describing. . .that the movie is *obviously* aimed at the adolescent audience as far as content is concerned, but it's being marketed as a "children's movie" for the 8-and-under crowd. Like I said, what is the *point* of ratings, if stuff obviously aimed at teens gets a "PG" rating and stuff not fit for kids in their early teens gets a "PG-13" rating?? If parents are going to have to personally preview each and every movie/video before they let their kids watch it, because the ratings aren't any kind of reliable guide as to the content of the movie, they might as well just do away with the ratings system entirely!
I'm not sure of exactly what DD's status is in Hollywood. A year or so ago, I would have agreed with you that he wasn't "A-list", but when "Full Frontal" came out it was advertised as "starring Julia Roberts and David Duchovny" as if the two of them were considered stars of the same magnitude and I *know* she's "A-list". . .so who knows?
I do agree that he's not doing his career any good by taking this extended paternity leave, or whatever he's been doing since his son was born last summer. It's nice that he puts his family first, but I would think he'd want to work occasionally. Maybe he could do a TV movie or mini-series? Those don't take as long to film as a theatrical movie, but they wouldn't involve the long-term committment (which I think he is wary of, after XF) of actually starring in an on-going TV series.
