Subject: Was Mulder ever. . .??

I was reading a book in which there were some FBI agents and one of the things it said was that "almost all" FBI agents are assigned to outlying field offices for the first year or two after they graduate and have to "work their way up" to being assigned to headquarters, Quantico or one of the big field offices like Houston or New York City.
We know this wasn't true of Scully, as they said in the Pilot ep that she had taught at Quantico every since she graduated from the FBI Academy. Was it true of Mulder?? Was he ever assigned to someplace like the Omaha office of the FBI or did he start working on the Violent Crimes squad as soon as he graduated??
BTW, the book was fictional so I don't know that the information was true, although it seems logical. Then again, one of the big questions of XF was always: "If "they" (whoever 'they' were) didn't want Mulder working on the X-Files and/or working with Scully, why didn't 'they' just reassign him to the FBI field office in Anchorage, Alaska or something like that?" Mulder was quite young during the early years of XF and really didn't have that much seniority, so I don't think he would have honestly had as much freedom as he did to choose his own assignments. But then, of course, that was the whole premise of the show.
