`Leoni vows lifetime of au naturel

BY CINDY PEARLMAN

Do not needle beautiful actress Tea Leoni. She won't have it.

"If a director ever tells me to do Botox, I'll tell him to F-off," says the outspoken 38-year-old star of "Spanglish," a comedy with Adam Sandler opening Dec. 17.

She takes her anti-tox feelings a little further. "My friend [actress] Elisabeth Shue and I have a pact. We will never do this cosmetic surgery stuff. We've vowed to go through our lives and our careers without it," Leoni tells the Sun-Times in an interview.

Yes, it comes down to girlfriendly support. Shue, who starred in "Leaving Las Vegas," is 41.

"Elisabeth and I have decided that when we feel weak about Botox or cosmetic surgery we'll call each other for support. We'll just say no to each other," says Leoni, who is married to actor David Duchovny.

Leoni is against Botox for a reason. "Someone has to stop it in this town," she says. "But it's tough. Of course, you see the women running around Hollywood with plastic, catwomen faces. You don't envy them. But then you'll see someone who has just had a little work done and they look so damn good. It makes you want to do it, too.

"With Botox, it's just a tiny shot. They say it isn't painful and that it isn't botulism. But it still isn't going near my face. I won't do it for a part."

In fact, Leoni believes that not fixing every future line will be good for her career.

"Elisabeth and I figure that someday we'll be the only two actresses who will be 65 in Hollywood and look 65. So we'll be the only two who will get all those roles that call for a 65-year-old woman because everyone else who is 65 will look like they're 30. So our anti-Botox thing isn't about vanity. It's really about saving our careers!"

But what if her husband, Duchovny, wants to do his own Botox someday? Would she discourage him?

"Oh my God! David getting Botox? He would never!" Leoni whoops. "My husband is the kind of man not into those things. He washes his face, body and the car with the same bar of glycerin soap and doesn't know the difference.

"What's incredible is that he's getting more and more handsome as he gets older," she says with a sigh.

And why aren't women celebrated for the way they age? "It's all about our twisted idea as a society of what women should look like. We never say, 'Boy that women is beautiful. Such rugged features.' It's more like, 'Wow, she looks like she was beaten up.'

"We have to change our thinking. We have to change our concept of beautiful," Leoni says.
