Subject: Steps for Recovering from Artificial Nails

What do you do when your client decides to take her nails off?
There are a couple of different things you can do.
l. Take a pledgette (ball of cotton) and put acetone on it and place a pledgette on each nail and wrap each nail in foil. Allow to sit for about 30 minutes and unwrap one at a time and file down with a file for acrylic nails. It
will be very gummy. Do not file into the natural nail. Leave a bit of acrylic on vs filling into the natural nail.
2. This I prefer. File acrylic to very thin on top without bothering the natural nail. File length down to fairly short. Buff and blend and make as smooth as you can. Let the acrylic grow out and leave on nail as long as it will stay. This will keep the nails slightly protected. In time the acrylic will probably come off.
In the beginning do not allow nails to get much length. They will be very dry, thin and brittle. Trying to grow them out in most cases will be fruitless and frustrating. You will want to carry at all times the File and Buffer(Amera)to be able to file any nicks that occur. In time, you will be able to get them smooth. Depending on how severe the damage is from the enhancements, will depend on how fast they recover.
Rememeber that if you have worn them for several years, it is not uncommon for your nails to take 6-12 months to recover. The nail has to make a physical change and that takes several months.
VERY IMPORTANT: Mousse 3-4 times a day to add hydration to nail and increase blood flow so the nails will grow out faster.

After the acrylic has come off, manicure and put 1 coat of Natural Nail daily. Every 4-10 days, remove Natural Nail and manicure. Do this for about a month. Then you can graduate to using Natural Nail as a base and top coat. As the nails progress and become healthy you can graduate to Base Coat, Premiere, lacquer, Top Coat.
Needless to say, you should be Moussing NO LESS THAN TWICE A DAY at this point. Twice a day is maintenance.
