Subject: "It's not fair!"
In reply to: Primary Advisor Myclofig 's message, ""Sire? You called for me?"" on 14:12:17 05/24/02 Fri

The princess slammed a hoof into the side of her smartship, the dent echoing throughout the hangar. November made no sound and felt no pain, but the ensuing silence screamed volumes to J'Li. The smartship was advanced to the point that its feelings were real enough, and J'Li knew at once this one's had been hurt.

"November, I....I'm sorry. I know it isn't your fault and I shouldn't have lashed out like that. It's just that....well....you know what it is: it's just the same thing. That's the problem. My father would not be happy to see how I'm behaving...."

"Your father is rarely happy these days, princess. I fear melancholy to be a self-inflicted epidemic among your bloodline."

J'Li jumped and stifled a startled whinney in her throat. The sudden and unexpected boom of her father's advisor's rumbling voice in the deserted hangar caught her off guard.

"Mr. Myclofig....where....I didn't even hear....I'm sorry."

"Apologizing child? To me? When it was I who wronged you just now? This sheltered life of yours is hardly beneficial to your career path. An Empress can apologize to no one save herself."

"Weakness....I'm showing you weakness. That's it?"

"No child, no. Your true weakness is in the way you restrain your feelings, stuff them deep down inside you to fester and torment you. Never hide your emotions. Never. Apologizing needlessly is not the same as showing your feelings. Your weakness is in the very feeling that you should apologize in the first place! Worry not about the Emperor. Do what makes you happy. He may be displeased but, in the grand scheme of things, by embracing your destiny and your bloodright you will ultimately make him proud."

The princess had turned away the moment her father's advisor's speech became too tempting, too inviting. 'Do what made her happy'? She wanted to leave Kymellia, leave her father. Not forever; just for a little while. To see more and clear her thoughts; little more. But it was not to be; her father kept her too tightly reined in. And for his advisor to say such treasonous things to her?

"i don't think you should--" she began as she turned to face an empty hangar. He was gone as quickly as he had come, and had not comforted her or soothed her wanderlust. She had only a few seconds to ponder this as the sound of her smartship engines starting surprised her for the second time this day. She whirled and gazed at November, wondering how he had started without voice activation. A yellow glow surrounded her beloved craft, brightest by a certain hoof-shaped dent. The open hatch in the side was inviting, too inviting. She ran forward at a gallop and leapt into the hovering craft. November soared out of the castle hangar as his hatch closed and his passenger climbed into her seat.

Cloud after cloud broke before the cockpit as she gazed in wonder. Day became night suddenly as stars, more than she had ever seen, filled the glass before her. She had only a second to see how small her home looked beneath them and reconsider this action when November's secondary boosters ignited, propelling her through a strange reddish light.

Princess J'Li Whitemane was gone; long live the princess.
