Two weeks ago I was at the range practicing with my newly gripped (Winn oversize) clubs for the FIRST time. I was finally doing NG with the right equipment!

Soaring short irons, crisp middle irons, and solid driving. Life was good. It was time to add distance!

Got the big stick and teed one up. Thought about pulling the club through hard and low to the ground. "Click". 235 yards with a slight draw.

Teed the next one up. "Click." Dead straight, 230. Both were about 10-15 yards more than my normal drive, and had better trajectory. I was starting to "get it" and wasn't even trying that hard!

Third one. Teed it up. Thought to myself "this ball will be the first one I ever hit to the end of the range." Pulled through REALLY hard. "Click..."

As I watched the ball hook left (about 230), it felt like someone had taken all the power out of my right side: neck, back, shoulder and arm. And, stiffening pain, like someone was applying a nerve hold with a vise on my neck...

The pain was so bad, I went to the doctor the next day. I had badly pinched a nerve in my neck. 800mg of Ibuprofen, and Vicodin to sleep at night. I haven't picked up a club in two weeks, and the doctor suggested I wait one week after I am fully healed to golf again.

So, the moral of the story is: Even though you may have warmed up to your "normal range of motion," you should still stretch out as far as you possibly can.

:(
