Subject: Short Backswing

I think the reason that I love driving ranges, whether in Florida, Minnesota, or, Montana, is the fact that you meet such delightful, introspective, intelligent people. People with PASSION.

I met a master of the short backswing, and he has been the first one to explain the short backswing...conventional grip.

The club goes straight back, but the turning left shoulder gives the inside appearance. The right forearm moves just barely above parallel on the backswing. Just like Moe. Hold the right hand and arm, as if you had the left hand on the bible, and you were swearing, "to tell the truth, the whole truth...", Bring your left arm across the chest, with your thumb up, and stick it into the palm of the right hand. That's pretty much the backswing.

The young man weighed 140 lbs., and had this short backswing, like Moe, and he drove the ball 270 yards.

He was taught the swing, which surprised me. To learn the left arm move, he stayed connected, by putting a head cover under the arm pit, ala, Ballard.

It was interesting because it brought into contention the answer of putting the clubhead some distance behind the ball, and, is the blade open, or, pretty much closed to the path. The Journeyman tape shows the irons closed, and the driver almost closed, which supports the straight back theory.

Anybody have reference to the short backswing in some golfing publications?

Remington
