I think if the level of committment is the same, I tend to agree with you about bowling vs golf. But, the major difference between the two sports is that you can see hazards in golf. You can't see "dry boards" or "rundown" in bowling.

The VERY weird part is that bowlers spend more money on equipment than golfers do! A nice set of clubs costs about $500+. One top of the line bowling ball will run $200 (and last about one league season due to wear).

I see how Moe's dogged committment made him a great shotmaker. I spent my college years practicing bowling. My junior year I had 0 (zero) missed spares (does not include conversion of splits) in a 48 game intercollegiate league here in Wisconsin. I saw the level of my play rise to a point where I could compete with touring professional bowlers. The "real world" changed that, but I started bowling league again this year after a five year layoff and averaged 210 (missing about 2-4 corner pins per night).

Maybe we could start a "Natural Bowling" program! ;)
