You were going for the big whip if you didn't try to cock all the way on the backswing:-) When I've tried this I get a 'bounce' when it reaches the limit of my wrist flexibility. Then I can't recover the left arm/shaft angle that was lost on the bounce.

What does give me the whip effect with no bounce is to start the downswing with a pull of the right arm directed as the right elbow returning to the side (or in my case in front of the right hip). For me I can use this to activate the body bend I've described. This has two effects: It slightly increases the wrist cock by applying more force on the shaft against the extended left arm and it flattens the plane of the club (ala Sergio Garcia).

It does increase speed as I noticed in my club 'release' incident.

Peter
