Subject: Getting to 6/100s

IMA is not explicit about how you get to the "6/100s" position (pre-impact, shaft horizontal, elbow in front of hip), just that you get there.

Until recently I thought I was getting there but found that when my elbow got to that position the shaft was below horizontal.

I am now able to get to this position through a few changes:

1) I stand more like Moe - being thick chested I needed to stand further from the ball and bend at the waste with a straight back to make space for my elbow to get in front without my upper arm being blocked by my chest.

2) Applying a torque on the club by pulling in (up at setup) with the right arm (biceps curl) against an extended left arm. This force holds the left arm/shaft angle (wrist cock).

3) Moving from the top of the backswing to '6/100s' with a body movement (bending back and hip shifting forward to arrive at impact position) that delivers the 'unit' (arms and club) to pre-impact intact; maintaining the angle.

I need to do all 3 for this to work but Remington in particular is interested in #3; the move down.

I got the Golf Channel Video of Jim Mclean analyzing Hogan and it was worth the $30 just for the segment showing Hogan providing a swing analysis. He emphasized the first move down and the fact that it should start with the lower body. Although he said this the move largely resembled my move just with more rotation. He clearly was delivering the 'unit' intact to pre-impact.

Every attempt but one that I've made for an initial arm move does not sustain the angle. The one arm move (throwing) that did resulted in too much pain for my right elbow.

How do you get to '6/100s' and do you maintain the angle?

Peter
