Your question about whether NG "has a clue about club design" is something I've pondered myself on occasion. I like you have also wondered about NG Corp trying to ride the patent if the newer clubs aren't built according to the specs of the patent -- but I'm willing to chalk that one up to marketing blunder (unless you've worked directly with marketing folks, you wouldn't believe how easy it is for marketing blunders to occur!). One thing that wouldn't surprise me would be if their first theories were incorrect, so they modified them (having learned from their earlier mistakes). That's a normal part of the scientific method -- after all, a theory isn't equivalent to a fact, and only the intellectually dishonest will continue to hold to a theory in the face of contradictory evidence.

The BC3 woods were really well done. I don't know if that was luck or good club designers learning from earlier club designs. Personally, I'm planning to use the performance of the G3s as a litmus test to answer that... unlike you (no attack intended, just difference of opinion) I tend to believe that NG actually does know what they're doing and the G3s will play very nicely and will not feel like Orlimars. So I'm waiting with bated breath for first hand experience reports until I can see them for myself.

GeneO.
