I don't know. It says a lot of things to me.

It says to me that people's environments have a great deal to do with who they are, and might also dictate their behavior.

It explains to me the fact that we're all different and how we like to control our environment. After all those towns were pretty much nothing until a certain type moved in. And you've got to consider the types of people in these towns. Some sort of ancient ritual they go by perhaps? Which, then, brings us back to how the environment suddenly shifts to control the people.

Or maybe I'm wrong. And there's this weird magical Wal-Mart sized conspiracy. Where a certain corporation likes to play the "buy this" game, and says to each individual town, "hey, you're towns' looking pretty shabby why don't you buy some giant white sheets to cast over all that ugliness."

Or maybe (and this is my favorite idea) it's how we all ware these social masks in public to put on a facade in front of everyone to fool them. The idea is; we can be ugly, we could want a label for ourselves so we feel like we're somebody, or we wanna feel like we're individuals by acting so mundane that we bore the entire universe. And, so, with that, we make fun of those who act naturally because we're afraid of it. Because we think we can push ourselves into living a fantasy that never ends up being what wanted. Yet we continue to fool ourselves.

Or maybe I'm full of shit and I need to shut up.
