I saw a movie today that, I believe, was made sometime in the early 1970s called "The Wicker Man." Pretty interesting story about a group of pagans based in Scotland ~ "Summerisle." Of course, after further research on Scotland; it seemed the movie took place in many locations like, Plockton, Skye, Ayrshire, and some more I've probably overlooked. "Summerisle," although, is credited at the beginning of the movie as a real place. But it doesn't actually exist. The place is completely fictional.

Anyways, it seemed as though it was a nice place to make a movie.

Beautiful, even.

The movie seems pretty cut & dry at first, but continues to switch gears. Of course, it's not exactly a detective movie, but it is interesting.

Here's the jist; The main character in the movie is this fundamentalist Christian cop (from the mainland) who becomes drawn into an investigation over a missing twelve year old girl at Summerisle. At first the villagers act as though there was no such girl until the cop finds out they're 'lying.' During his investigation he comes to realize that these people are a deeply ritualistic group of pagans. Their ideas on life, death, and sex are extremely undesirable to this man. So it's easy for the villagers to pretend they sacrificed the girl during some crazy pagan ritual.

Apparently I hadn't done as much research on pagan culture as I thought I have. Some of the pagan customs in this movie seemed pretty dumbed down, but tasteful and respectful. Rather than insulting. Still, something that threw me and my friends way off guard, and something I've never heard was, "Protected By the Ejaculation of Serpents." I know that there's some pretty "unusual" aspects about pagan life, and I can even understand some of their ideals. But how in the hell can serpent ejaculation protect anyone? Where does that come from?

Any pagans here who might know?

Because I don't think I would have chosen this nick name if I had known this before hand. I'm even stuck with it in my everyday life. So it's no wonder what most of my friends have been saying to me after we watched this movie. Even during the movie.

Oh, well. Anyways, if you haven't seen this movie, I'd consider it next time you're out at the video store.

It is interesting.
