Don't I make message board debates more fun?

Hey, Serp. I posted above before I saw this.

Hey! Yeah, I think I saw that.

:)

So I'll confine my comments now to things not mentioned above.

Cool.

Where in the bible does it say "Man is sinful and will always be sinful"

Well, forgive my lack of knowledge to exactly know where everything is in the Bible, however, I think it was summed up when people came to the conclusion that if sex is a "sin," and we're born from the act of sex, then we're born from an act of "sin."

Further more, we're supposed to become "saved," so we can constantly devote our very lives to feeling guilty for natural human instincts, and we're supposed to offer our human instincts ("sin") to Jesus Christ, and try to lead our lives according to this man (who we've never personally met - who they say was supposedly perfect), yet, we can never be perfect, or like him, because we will always fall short of the glory of God.

That's where I think they got the concept.

I don't know the whole of the bible by heart, but I'm certain I've never read that. Yes, I've heard plenty of people claim that's in the bible. But they also claim that the doctrine of the trinity is in the bible.

See what I just said above.

A real religion is not merely man made, but is the intersection between man and God. It is not perfect. And real religion can be recognized by the fruits we reap from it. This means the changes in the lives of believers. So if people saw Star Wars and this transformed their lives (other than to make them nerdy ;) ) this would hint at some truth to it's message.

In other words, to be "non-religious" means we have no morals or values? If you don't believe in God, or have this special interaction with God, then we're destine to fall?

Don't get me wrong. I think a lot of sad people need a form of religion, but if you can cope without it, then you don't need it.

Further more, religion appears to be a double edged sword, just as science is. It offers all that love and surrender. However, it also offers fear, insanity, oppression, and murder. The biggest, and most recent event I can think of would be September eleventh, and the middle east. To a smaller case, the Yates' trial.

As for Star Wars. My point was simple. Yes, someone can get a bit of enlightenment from the movie, but you can't expect people to actually believe that Star Wars is real.

By the way, Lucas was pretty clearly liberally borrowing from Asian philosphy in the first three, and appeared to be Christianizing the Force in the latest movie-- so there is real religion running around in it, anyhow.

Yeah, I read something about that along time ago, and that's what I was thinking when I was making my point.

Besides, it just depends on your definition of "real," I suppose.

As for the belief not making sense to you, that's fine and fair. But I'd caution you to make sure whatever belief doesn't make sense is actually one advocated by Christ. Lot's of ideas advocated by so-called Christians don't make any sense because they've got nothing to do with Christ's message.

It also seems as though half of the Bible is opposed to Christ's teachings, as well.

I do have a moral side and spiritual side, but it's extremely hard to explain.

My point about the destruction of the earth is that science has given us Nukes and stuff. If religion isn't a good guide for what to do (or not to do) with Nukes, then somebody better find out what is a good guide, and they'd better do it fast.

Oh. Well, Nukes were created to destroy the world a few times over, and everyone who believes in war would probably agree. Plus, if we got rid of nukes, we'd be helpless. Like, if we're ever attacked by Martians, then we'll have something to defend ourselves with!

Note the high dosage of sarcasm.

If I had any say in this country, then all nuclear and biological weaponry would be gone.

Like I said, science is a double edged sword. It has given us many things we take for granted. For example; we wouldn't even be debating this now, if it weren't for science. Hence, we wouldn't have the internet. I never called it science, though. I always called it technology.

Yes, you are right; I believe their are many Paths to Salvation/Liberation.

Hey! What about the conservatives who don't believe in liberation?

Kidding..

:)
