When they fail to have real things to say (because to learn the real essences of other religions is wrong too), they figure they can just say the same things over and over. It is kind of like not having a hammer then usng your head to drive a nail into a board. Is it smart? Of course not. Does it work? Depends on what you want to accomplish.

Here is what a fundamentalist (not just Christian I must point out) does by reciting their rhetoric: They show you what they believe. They show anyone else what they believe. Lastly they go back and tell other people that think like them what they did. In this circle of like minded people, there is never any consideration that they could have done anything differently. To waste time on anything but their truth is just unthinkable (I am stressing the "thinking" thing here, please see that or my sarcasm is lost).

I echo your concerns about whether they are actually trying to accomplish anything at all but look good to their like minded friends. I do not believe that they need to really make an impression at all. They have decided what they need to do. And they do the bare minimum, kind of like if missionaries were government employees.

They have no respect for anyone but the people they think they will be sharing eternity. Freedom of thought does not exist, except for what they think is right. I often wish that there was a thing like the rapture so at least 144,000 of these idiots would disappear at once.
