For whatever you ascribe to my opinion.

But I will add a few things.

Creation was to show the Creator. In that light you establish Divine ownership so later the Creator can do with creation whatever He (she, it or they) pleases. For example, if God wished to make a covenant with a segment, or give land to someone, or curse another group, so be it. He made it, He runs it.

Think of it as a legalistic basis for the assertions of the Jewish people today. The only weakness in this is the fact they were the group it was given to at Sinai and they kept it in their possession (I point this out because legally it must be stated).

The Jews as a people part of the covenant really only came into being at Sinai. So the peoples leaving Egypt still had no cultural identity as "chosen" or "People of the Book" yet. The covenant with Abraham was to make his descendants as numerous as the stars, not to create a people as "chosen".
