It has nothing to do with you talking to God, exactly.

That wouldn't irritate me.

It's the fact that God (if he did answer your prayer) figured the only way He could get you to quit would be to have one of your damn lung's collapse!

That's like me asking God to help me stop cussing, and the next morning my tongue falls outta my mouth.

It seems to me when people think of God they either think of this Santa Clause figure who is all loving and caring, but mostly they associate this loving and caring Santa Clause figure with pain and fear.

Why is that?

Why is it that God couldn't have given you some strength or enough will power to have you go get the damn patch, or *surprise* a family member drops by with the nicotine inhaler!

No no, God has a much craftier idea, "I'll make her lung collapse!" I can almost hear His maniacal laugh as I type this. And then he says, "That ought to scare her into wanting to quit!"

Scare. Fear. Torture.

That's what irritates me.

God doesn't have any other ideas beyond fear?

It has nothing to do with what you believe. That doesn't irritate me at all.

Usually I like a good debate. And it's mainly for fun.

This is different.

This is a personal problem I have with the way people believe in God.

I like to think God smiles when people are having an orgasm, or when people are eating good food, or when people are helping other people, or when people are burning flags. Not when someone's lung collapses.
