I was in a trial where I talked to the CHP officer while waiting for the jury to come in, and I asked him if they trained him to be polite on the stand. He told me that they are told to be polite in every pullover not just for PR, but because it slightly reduces the chance of getting shot or otherwise attacked. Makes sense.

But I'm talking about something more fundamental than politeness, and it would have to be sincere or it would be pointless.
